Photo of the day: Osprey nestling

I started using reclaimed wood to frame my own photography, so why not showcase some recent work of mine! I plan to only post photos that I plan to frame using reclaimed wood.

Right now is the peak of my field season where I help monitor and manage the state population of ospreys. Today I surveyed the most densely populated colony of nesting ospreys in the state of New Jersey. It’s just off Island Beach to the north of Barnegat Inlet. I visited a total 24 active nests and banded 35 young with USGS aluminum bird bands for future tracking. I’ll stop here, but if you want to learn more check out this article which got published today in The Sandpaper, a local free paper: http://thesandpaper.villagesoup.com/news/story/optimism-as-annual-osprey-survey-begins-along-coast/845551

Or you can check out the website of the organization that I work for: www.conservewildlifenj.org

I use a Canon EOS 7D. I got it a little over a month ago to upgrade from a basic Canon Rebel dSLR. It’s a great camera for photographing birds and other wildlife because of it’s fast speed and quick autofocusing. I shot this one at 1/100sec. f9 iso 100.
