Kathy Johnston poster
Framed another piece by Kathy Johnston. This piece was not rare or a limited edition print. It was a poster, but I treated it the same way as a limited edition print for archival framing. First the frame is sealed using acid-free sealing tape, then the poster was mounted using a T-hinge of archival mounting tape on acid-free foam core. The tape can be reversed with mineral spirits. It was finished with a cream Rising rag mount museum quality 100% cotton mat board that was hinged with the foam core board.
The wood frame was built from salvaged tongue & groove cedar and was sanded with 100 then 220 grit sandpaper. It was stained Ipswich Pine (by Minwax). I originally got this stain to match my hardwood floors in my home. The final finish was General Finishes urethan satin rub on finish. I plan on switching to 100% certified green stains in 2012.
