Dining table in the works

Currently I’m working on something other than framing. I’m building a large (9’x4′) dining table for some friends of mine. They contacted me about making the table and I mentioned repurposing one that was picked from the trash a couple years ago. I was using it as a stand for my miter saw. Since they want such a large table I’m only able to reuse the table legs and hardware right now. I’m not sure what to do with the table top (it has tile inset in the top) and the middle sections of the base might get turned into a frame.

I made the new base from old roof rafters. I also hoped to make the table top from this but the wood has been sitting outside for the past few years inside Tuckahoe WMA and its condition isn’t the best for use as a table top. As it dries it cracks and warps. I’m headed to Recycling the Past today to check out some salvaged wood that they have from old barns, etc… More photos to come!

The table base is mocked up and ready for paint. This thing takes up almost all of my work space! I'm planning on finishing it in my Dad's workshop in Manahawkin later this week. © Ben Wurst

I love what you are doing with reclaimed wood and old “finds”. We should all be more mindful of what we throw away. Can’t wait to see the finished product here 🙂
